Trust the Moment

An invitation to live

When I dare to live, I will feel alive. I may wet my pants in the process, but I will also experience exhilarating joy. It all starts now. It all starts with becoming aware of what is actually around me and going on.

Trust the Moment

You know it is going to pass
Everything does
So enjoy it while it lasts
And why do it half-arsed?
You might as well dive in head first
Like a child
Be playful with it
Have fun

Of course it might hurt
But both pain and joy teach you how to be alive
And how to live
So why not live a little more
Get a little wiser

And when you’re old an wrinkly
You will have a bucket load of stories to tell
And a few gems that might help others along their way

Trust the moment
All life is ever now

Intro

Having a past and a future is an essential aspect of being human. I look back at my story and those who have gone before, and it defines my identity, who I am. And from there I look into the future, I make plans and predictions and thus set the direction of where I want my live to go. And ever so often I get stuck there, mourning for the good o’le days or hoping for a glorious or fearing a frightful future.

In doing so, I’m missing the current moment, the Now.

And Now is a curious thing. One could say, Now is that tiny, passing, fleeting moment between the past and the future, this almost nothing of time which I constantly pass through. When I try to pin it down it’s already gone. It almost looks like a purely fictitious concept, a construct that isn’t real.

Yet, if on the other hand I manage to be present here and now, then – the more I allow myself to sink into this Now, the more it seems to expand. It’s a curious thing that mystics of all ages and backgrounds always describe the divine in terms of an eternal Now, a blissful moment in which everything is there and nothing is lacking.

There is a mystery about Now. It’s always there, and yet the doorway into the infinite Now seems so hard for us to find. The key to opening it is letting go – which includes both my attachments to my past and to a possible future . Letting go is a very simple thing that most of us find incredibly hard. The road that leads to it is build on trust, for without trust I won’t be able to let go.

It was Pablo Picasso who very famously once said: „I do not seek, I find.“ He then goes on to explain how this is only possible if I feel safe in insecurity – and this is the very attitude of trusting, which allows me to open myself for the unknown.

Thinking about it: If I don’t have a solution or redemption inside of me, where else could it possibly come from than from an unknown place, a place that I do not know yet? The only place to encounter the unknown, to encounter, really, anything, is in the Now.

    No Way

We don’t want to get a no as an answer. Or, do we? In our communication there are lots of yesses we make shine as bright as billboards on a main road. But oh so often a yes does not mean a yes, but simply avoids saying a no.
Here’s a high praise to the art of saying no, for while it may feel harsch in the moment, it opens up routes of new possibility. It get’s rid of mind-junk and allows you to focus your energy at where it’s really happening.

    Trumpism

All politics happens in a certain mindset. While the focus in politics and in the ever-present news coverage of it is all focused on things that are being done (or said they would be done), there is something missing. The personal side. The human side. Yet, there is a deeply personal side in being both a politician and a political human being, a citizen.

    Toriodal Ambiguation

Awareness is a condition for freedom. But how do I increase my awareness? There is an age-old and proven way to do so which goes by the term meditation. A lot of us associate meditation with the idea of sitting cross-legged in a lotus position with closed eyes. And of course one can do that, and for good reasons. The true magic of meditation, though, is the space it opens up inside of me.
As Buddhist teacher Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche has put it so nicely, it’s about accessing stillness, silence and spaciousness inside of me. There I find the room to wiggle, which will allow me to chose where I want to go. If I don’t *have to* do something, then I’m truly free to choose. So, follow the white rabbit into the wonderland of becoming aware that you are aware…

    Thru That Darkest Door

Following my inner calling can lead me down a most adventurous path, and part of that journey is death – not necessarily physical death, but the death of something in my life. J. R. R. Tolkien put those oracle words into the mouth of Gandalf, “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
Such a quest for your inner calling frequently leads to desperate moments in which I question everything and have a sense of being completely lost, in which I feel like a complete failure. This ”dark night of the soul”, as the Christian mystic John of the Cross has put it, seems to be a necessary passageway on this journey to that fertile land of which my longing informs me. Nothing for the faint of heart! But, oh my, how very worth it is the trip, once you’ve arrived, and how so very much worth it do those dark moments feel in hindsight. So, come on, put all your chips on the table and come on board …

    Autumn

Living my life fully is key to be able and let go gracefully when that final last goodbye comes around. It’s all about beauty. Rather than postponing life, it is good to ask yourself from time to time whether the life you are living is really the one you want to live. This is your one precious moment of being alive.
Living fully is not for the faint of heart. And yet, there is nothing like knowing you have followed your heart, your calling, your passion, your intuition.

    Into Ever

There is a proof that everything is consciousness, says Sogyal Rinpoche in The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, because everything we know about our existence and the world happens in our consciousness. When you think of it, it really is the only thing we have.

So it is kind of curious to take a step back from my awareness so as to ponder about what is in my awareness, what it is about. Here’s a poem, inspired by the beautiful hills of Dartmoor, and my oh my, how the beauty of that place first had me sink into it and then sank into me, so much that it has become a part of me.
